Living in the fast lane
Located in Fontana, California, the California Speedway opened in 1997. It is fairly new and has had many new additions and changes to be able to accommodate motorcycle races, "road" races, drag races and vehicle testing. In 1999, tragedy struck the Speedway when Canadian driver, Greg Moore was killed in a crash during a race. His car slid in the grass off the side of the track causing him to spin out of control. The race track underwent a complete overhaul of the backstretch of the track for safety reasons. The track has become so much safer because of this incident.
The need for speed
This race track also has an infield road-course which has been used for many events. 19-year old Kyle Busch won his first NASCAR Nextel Cup in 2005 and he is the youngest driver to win in that series.
