McCarran International Airport Car Rentals and the McCarran International Airport

California

McCarran International Airport is the main airport serving the Las Vegas area as well as Clark County, Nevada. McCarran is conveniently located only five miles from the central business district of Las Vegas with your McCarran International Airport car rental. This is the hub for US Airways and Allegiant Air.

McCarran is one of the world's busiest airports, ranked number 9 in the world for passenger traffic. It is a completely self-sufficient airport, requiring no money from the County's general fund to help it run. One of the things that is unique to McCarran is that it operates more than 1300 slot machines throughout the airport, making you feel like you are in Vegas before you even leave the airport with your McCarran International Airport car rental.

McCarran began as an air field in 1942, which was soon taken over by the county. With the growth of Las Vegas, the airport became a very busy hub for the area, bringing thousands of people to the area to gamble. Today it is one of the busiest airports in the world.

Flying from McCarran

Southwest Airlines operates more flights from McCarran than any other airport. The airline is currently operating out of 20 gates, mostly found on Concourse C. Right now, the airport currently sees more than 44 million people pass through each year. The maximum capacity of the airport is 53 million passengers, which it is expected to reach around 2017. Ivanpah Airport is planned as the relief airport when this happens.

When you come to the airport with your McCarran International Airport car rental, there are two public passenger terminals. There are also terminals for private aircraft, government contractors, sightseeing flights, and cargo.

Terminal 1 is where you are likely to go with your McCarran International Airport car rental. This terminal handles the most flights, with 85 gates on four concourses. There is a people mover that connects concourses C and D with the terminal's check-in and baggage claim areas.

Terminal 2 is much smaller, and it is where the international flights arrive. There are 8 gates in terminal 2, four of which are dedicated to international flights. Upon arriving from international destinations, passengers can go through immigration and customs easily. Terminal 2 is also where most charter flights leave from.

When you go to pick up your McCarran International Airport car rental, there is a consolidated rent-a-car center, which is expected to open in late 2006. The airport is also expanding, with plans for a third terminal and road improvements to make it easier to come and go with your McCarran International Airport car rental.

McCarran International Airport is a very convenient way to come visit Las Vegas and Clark County. It is located only five miles from the central business district of Las Vegas, making it very easy to get to the attractions that many people come to Vegas for.
