Facts
Before heading over to this fun-filled amusement park, here are some interesting facts! Did you know that Pacific Park is Los Angeles' only admissions free amusement part? This way you have the option of taking a walk in the park and just paying for what you want to do! Unlimited all-day wristbands are also available for unlimited use of rides! This amusement park also stretches 2 acres on the Santa Monica Pier along the West Coast and boasts over 2000 parking spaces - park your California car rental nearby! First opened on May 25th 1996, this park is available for party rentals and well as a popular film location for movies and TV. For example, the "Looff Hippodrome Carousel" was featured on the classic movie "The Sting"!
Brief History of the Pier
The Santa Monica Pier was originally completed on September 9th 1909 and has played a major role in the city's growth and development by attracting thousands of visitors with its unique oceanfront views. In the 1930's the Pier was confronted with severe weather patterns and new entertainment trends and lost its popularity. As a result, the pier deteriorated and the city council ordered its demolition in the 1970's. The city residents protested with a "save Our Pier Forever" campaign and this resulted in the city creating the Pier Restoration Corporation. In 1988, the council adopted the Santa Monica Pier Development Program which ordered the building of a new concrete substructure to add stability and strength to the pier. The program also added a number of retail stores, dining, and entertainment as well as the world-class Pacific Park amusement park!
Rides for Kids
Don't forget to bring your kids in your California car rental to this family friendly amusement park! Kids can ride up, down and around the Crazy Submarine, or they can enjoy the Frog Hopper as it springs them straight up and down to heights over 18 feet! There is also the Inkie's Lil' Scrambler (smaller version of the Inkie's Scrambler)! Here your kids will experience revolutions up to a speed of 10 per minute! Rides for Adults
There are also plenty of rides for grown-ups as well! Take a ride on the only West Coaster ocean front steel rollercoaster on a pier! The West Coaster will escalate you to a height of 55 feet as you feel the refreshing ocean spray breeze on your face! Another ride that you must visit is the beautiful Pacific Wheel! As the world's only solar power Ferris wheel, this ride takes you more than 130 feet high where you will get a great panoramic view of the Southern California Coastline and the Santa Monica Pier! The wheel moves at 2.5 revolutions per minute with intermittent stops to pick up passengers. At night the wheel shines brightly with its 6000 multicolored bulbs that line the wheel! If you are up for a spin, check out Inkie's Scrambler! Here you will go through a series of roundabout moves at a speed of more than 11 revolutions per minute! Other rides to check out include the nine story breathtaking Sig Alert, Pacific Plunge, and the Sea Dragon!
