Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is located on three miles east of the central business district of the City of Phoenix, making it easy to travel with your Phoenix car rental. This is Arizona’s main international airport and one of the largest facilities in the American southwest. The airport has been using its original name since 1935 when the private airport was bought by the city. In the 1950s there were four airlines servicing the area. Today, there are many more and it is a hub for US Airways and a focus city for Southwest Airlines.

Terminal 1, which was the original 1952 terminal, was torn down in 1990 and the airport did not want to renumber the other terminals because people were used to them. Instead, they call the number “retired”.
