San Jose International Airport Car Rentals and the San Jose International Airport

California

The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport is a medium-sized airport at the north end of the city with your San Jose International Airport car rental. It is located near the intersection of three major freeways (Highway 101, Interstate 880, and Highway 87), so it makes it very convenient to access.

Visiting San Jose

San Jose is the biggest city in the San Francisco Bay area, but San Jose Airport is the smallest serving the area. San Francisco International Airport is the main gateway for travelers, while Oakland International Airport is only slightly larger. One of the reasons you may fly from here with your San Jose International Airport car rental is because it is more convenient than San Francisco, which can sometimes be inconvenient. Discount carriers also use this airport to relieve some of the stress from other nearby airports. Southwest is one of the major carriers here, choosing it over San Francisco because of the weather delays that are often problematic for that area.

Traveling at San Jose International Airport

There are two terminals at the airport that you may travel through when you leave your San Jose International Airport car rental. Terminal A is the newest terminal, built in the early 1990s. American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Mexicana, and Southwest Airlines use this terminal for their flights. The current expansion plan for the airport is expanding this terminal, as the current terminal is sometimes too small for the crowds that travel through here.

Terminal C is the original terminal built in 1965. And the old layout of the terminal is still used here, al the way from the time you step off the plane onto the tarmac. There are almost no jetways in this terminal, which connect the plane to the terminal. When you fly into this terminal to catch your San Jose International Airport car rental, you are likely to be coming in with Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, or US Airlines. You may wonder what happened to Terminal B - this terminal is under construction and will replace Terminal C.

Under construction

When you visit with your San Jose International Airport car rental, you will notice there is a lot of construction going on here. Since august 2004 there have been ongoing improvements to the airport to improve service for passengers. The plan is to have one terminal within nine years. This large terminal will have 40 gates, 8 more than the current airport has. There will be an international concourse, and the security at the airport will be increased to ensure passenger safety. There will also be improvements to move people from the railway and the planned public transportation with a people mover system to get them to the airport.

Even more recently the plans have changed to complete the North Concourse by 2007 (or Terminal B) and expand Terminal A to have better features.

San Jose International Airport is a good choice with your car rental when you want easy access so San Jose and the Bay Area with the convenience of a smaller airport.
