If one of the destinations on your upcoming Rent4Less RV rental vacation’s itinerary includes Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, then prepare for the ride of a lifetime! Trade your comfortable seat in your RV rental for a seat on Disneyland’s Space Mountain adventure ride and buckle up!
In 1964 Walt Disney held a series of meetings to discuss a concept called the SpacePort. It was to be the centerpiece of Disneyland's new Tomorrowland of 1967. In June of 1966 the attraction became officially known as Space Mountain. Construction began in 1975, and the rest is, well, history. So what are you waiting for? Park your RV rental at one of Disneyland’s immaculate campgrounds and discover Space Mountain.
A perennial favorite of park visitors, Tomorrowland’s Space Mountain was first opened to the public on May 27, 1977. It took twelve years of planning, it cost over 20 million dollars to build, and it required over a million working hours in planning and construction to come to fruition. Space Mountain was closed for two years from 2003 to 2005 for refurbishments which included the replacement of the original coaster with a brand-new replica. The ride reopened just in time to celebrate the park’s 50th Anniversary on July 17, 2005. Now is your chance to embark on this new mission aboard the famed Disney classic with new and improved out-of-this-world special effects. Celebrate 50 years of Disneyland with a fantastic flight into the future!
The Ride: A "Galactic flight to the stars, the Cosmic Vapor Curtain, the Solar Energizer, and beyond!"
Leave the world of your RV rental behind and encounter Space Station 77 where you will board your rocket, enter the Space Port, and proceed to hurtle through a series of tunnels at a top speed of 32 mph. Your “launch” tunnels will flash red, orange, and blue around you until you are sent into outer space. Observe a spiral galaxy . . . or is it perhaps a worm hole? Then, you’ll experience the Mountain as the galaxy mysteriously disappears. Shoot through the cosmos, past fields of shooting stars, celestial satellites and breathtaking new special effects. In addition, your journey through the mountain’s twists and turns features an all-new on-board soundtrack to inflame your senses and heighten your Space Mountain experience. Visitors to the Mountain will also experience an all-new queue and a hi-tech launch port inspired by today’s era of space exploration (i.e. the Mars Rover, Hubble telescope, etc.), and guests will feel as if they have a first-hand look into the cosmos.
Fun Facts
- The soundtrack that you hear aboard Space Mountain was created and composed by Dick Dale, the “King of the Surf Guitar.”
- The foundation for the building that houses Space Mountain is actually 2 stories below the rest of Tomorrowland in order to keep the attraction within the same scale as the rest of the park.
- Unlike the other mountains featured in Disneyland, Space Mountain is the only one that is not designed after a real geographical range.
- Six Mercury astronauts attended the opening of Space Mountain in 1977.
- Space Mountain is the world’s first computerized indoor roller coaster.
If Space Mountain sounds like something you and your family might enjoy on your RV rental vacation to Disneyland, then here are some other park attractions that might interest you: the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Grizzly River Run, Splash Mountain, and California Screamin’.
