Anaheim History
Anaheim was once part of a Spanish land grant, but was actually named by a few early German settlers, Charles Kohler and John Frohling. Meaning "home by the river", the land that is now the site of Anaheim was once purchased for only $2 an acre as a place for German colonists to grow grapes and extend their wine industry! The wine industry thrived in Anaheim, until tragedy struck in the 1880's. A deadly plight attacked the vineyards of the boom town, destroying the fertile vines. But luckily it wasn't long until a new agricultural industry was right in the swing of things. Orange trees began to dot the landscape and a new trade has been born.
Another key point in Anaheim's history has to do with one man… and a mouse! In 1955 the one and only Walt Disney had an idea, and Anaheim had a solution. The fabled Magic Kingdom was opened and since that fairy tale day in 1955 the Anaheim car rentals have never stopped flowing!
